The Rhythm of the Falling Rain

I'm writing with Lisa Jo's Five-Minute-Friday group again. Lisa gives us a word and we have five minutes to write about it, no editing or over thinking the topic. Perfectionism goes out the window.
     This week's word was "RHYTHM."
no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.no
no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.

     GO!
When I heard the word rhythm, I thought of an old song, "Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain, telling me just what a fool I've been. I wish that it would go away and let me be alone."
I love the rhythm of the falling rain. It brings me such peace. I long for it's steady pitter patter in the summer when here in the desert we long for water falling from the sky. The pitter patter will turn into a torrential downfall as the monsoon sweeps in and I'm drawn with enthusiasm as I watch this miracle of summer.
At other times, the pitter patter creates a longing in my heart to curl up on the couch with a book and relax in this infrequent peace. If I follow the rhythm offered me, I will take a break from my crazed and hectic pace to let the gentle rain wash over my frazzled nerves and return to the rhythm of my soul that God gave me.
     STOP!

I just had to write something more about this post as it revolves around my husband's love of record-collecting. Some of you might remember those plastic discs with the grooves in them that our "older" generation played on record players. Well, my husband loves music, especially from the swing era through the "Oldies but Goodies" of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. I think that's why this song came to my mind. I hear so much of that music when I ride in his car and it brings back sentimental memories.
As it turns out, I misquoted the lyrics above--see, no perfectionism. But when I read it to my husband, he said, "I think that second line is different. It has something about vain in it."
We talked over the phone about it for a few fun-filled moments and then I went to look up the lyrics. With that peak, I discovered that the second line should be "I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain and let me be alone again."
When I originally typed those lyrics, I wasn't sure which way I was going with the post. I could have covered my husband's love of music, like I did above, but the pull was to fall into the RHYTHM of the falling rain that brings me such peace.
     A fun "word" today.
