Blessed Be His Name--Always

Oregon Coastline
"Those who know your name will trust in you,  for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you." Psalm 9:10 NIV

Blessed Be the Name of the Lord
Lyrics by
Matt and Beth Redman
Blessed be your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's all as it should be
Blessed be your name

Blessed be your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be your name

Praising God comes easily to our hearts and lips when all the world is right. When the blessings fall from heaven like spring showers, praises for the Lord and His goodness roll off our tongues.
But in the midst of trials and suffering, the words are harder to come by. We stumble over the feelings of our heart. We cry out in pain, as we should, but we often forget to say, "Still I will praise you."
Where can we find the relief from the pain so that we can praise Him again? It is in coming to Him with all the misery, praising Him instead of running away that we will find the peace we so desire.
And in that dark place, we grow in Him, knowing that He is capable and willing to care for us, to comfort us, to deliver us in time to a place where the sun once again shines.
This song was handpicked for the funeral that we attended last week for one of our young women's leaders. I've worshiped the Lord with those lyrics many times in church and nodded my head thinking, "Yes, Lord, when it's tough, I will choose to praise you." But my best of intentions have crumbled often under the weight of the trial.
Yet, here I stood hearing those lyrics once again. Singing those lyrics with a family who had just lost their wife, mother, sister, daughter--and a church overflowing with friends who chose to say, "Yes, Lord, even in this pain, blessed is your name. 'You give, and take away', but still we will bless your name."
That was true worship and trust.
