Crown of the Barrel Cactus~flower and fruit~bloom in the summer |
Summer in the Desert where pavement sizzles, rivulets of water trickle down the back, the thick air squeezes breath from lungs, and parched lips thirst for a drop of water . Where and when will relief come from the searing heat?
The dark clouds roll in, lightning sparks the sky and thunder cracks the muggy silence. Buckets of rain pour from the heavens, temperatures drop 20 degrees, and the tempest is gone. Only beauty and refreshment remain.
He who made the desert also brings the rain to cool the land,
blossom the plants, and wet the lips. He brings joy and life to a weary land
In our spiritual deserts when the heat burns hearts and tongues taste only dry words, when breaths are shallow and the air of God still, the weary traveler can hope. For in moments, the dark clouds will produce refreshing rains of joy from the Father. Life will blossom again in hearts, souls will be quenched, and lips will be full of water from the wellspring of life. He waters the desert and blossoms the parched land of souls on the journey.

"The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God." Isaiah 35:1&2 NIV
